Sterling

Once quiet, now thriving with planned communities, parks, schools, and varied housing.

Welcome to Sterling

It was once a sleepy suburban neighborhood but in recent years has grown by leaps and bounds. The development of large new communities created the need for a new post office and another zip code. The two zip codes and city names are almost interchangeable. The major communities are as follows:

Sterling Park

Built in the early 1960’s, Sterling Park has evolved over the years. Homes have been expanded, remodeled and revamped to meet the needs to today’s homeowners. Homes are affordable in the $350,000 to $550,000 range. High School students attend Park View High School.

Cascades, Lowes Island and Potomac Lakes

Cascades is a planned community in eastern Loudoun County. It emcompasses Lowes Island and Potomac Lakes. There are approximately 6,000 homes – a mix of townhomes, single family detached homes and even senior housing. Falcon’s Landing is a world-class assisted living facility for seniors. There are two high schools, 2 middle schools and 4 elementary schools that serve this area.

Amenities include 4 community centers, 5 swimming pools, walking and biking trails, numerous tennis courts and ball fields, and the beautiful Lowes Island Country Club and Golf Course. Algonkian Regional Park offers a public golf course and a boat launch to the Potomac River. The Cascades Marketplace offers shopping and a variety of dining. The Eastern Loudoun Regional Library and the Senior Center are walking distance to shopping at the Marketplace. Home prices range from $400,000 to $600,000 for townhomes and from $500,000 to $1,000,000 for single family homes.

Countryside

Countryside was built about two decades after Sterling Park. It is master planned community, consisting of approximately 2,500 homes, divided primarily between single family homes and townhomes with a few condos. There are three swimming pools, jogging trails which include a Parcourse Fitness Circuit, several tennis courts and tot lots. Algonkian Regional Park on the Potomac River is just a few minutes away. The Countryside Center offers a multi-plex theater and numerous options for dining. Home prices range from $300,000 to $400,000 for townhomes and from $400,000 to $700,000 for single family homes.
