It is located just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. It offers all types and styles of housing. from condos to townhomes to single-family homes. Ballston, Clarendon, Pentagon City, Rosslyn, Courthouse, Shirlington, and many other Metro stations make Arlington a great location for commuters.
 
Schools: Arlington is served by the Arlington Public School system. The public high schools in Arlington are Yorktown, Washington-Lee, Wakefield and H-B Woodlawn. Arlington is also home to Bishop Denis J. O’Connell, a Roman Catholic High School. The middle schools include Swanson, Williamsburg, H-B Woodlawn, Kenmore, Thomas Jefferson and Gunston. Accredited Elementary Schools are too many to name, but stand as leaders in the area. Arlington County spends about half of its revenue on education, making it one of the top ten per-pupil spenders in the United States. Some universities and colleges have campuses in Arlington County, such as George Mason, Strayer, and DeVry. Marymount University also makes its home in Arlington.
 
Recreation: The County is served by a number of paved off-road bicycle trails which travel along the Potomac River, notably the Mount Vernon Trail and Four Mile Run Trail. The W&OD Trail also runs through Arlington. It travels for 45 miles from the Arlington/Alexandria boundary all the way to Purcellville in western Loudoun County. Many community parks and playgrounds are easily reached for families and children, as well as dog parks for animal lovers.
 
History: Many interesting historical and important landmarks are located in Arlington County. The Arlington National Cemetery was established during the American Civil War on the grounds of Confederate General Robert E. Lees home. With more than 260,000 people buried there, Arlington National Cemetery is the second-largest national cemetery in the United States. Another important landmark is the USMC War Memorial, commonly known as the Iwo Jima Memorial. Its striking presence attracts tourists from all over the world and is just as beautiful at night as it is during the day. The Pentagon and the United States Department of Defense are also headquartered in Arlington.
 
Shopping & Dining: With its easy access to D.C., Arlington lends itself to be a leader in shopping and cuisine in the metropolitan area. Great shopping is spread all over the county from the Pentagon City Mall outward to include retail shops, boutiques, farmers markets, and flea markets. There are several award-winning and Zagat-rated restaurants in the area. Even the small, neighborhood eateries are delicious with a wide range of cuisine, from Japanese to Spanish and Indian to American.
